What makes a hair topper look the most natural?

Many new clients who purchase a hair topper worry that it won't appear natural. It's probably the number one concern I hear in my studio. These are the three key factors to pay attention to when selecting a topper: Color, cut, and part-line.

Color matching a hair topper

If the color of a hair topper doesn't match your bio hair, it is a dead giveaway that you're wearing a piece. The front hairline is the most important color to match, as well as the color on the ends around your face. This can be tricky with factory colored pieces, as many roots are too dark or too warm. We customize every single hair topper to ensure it blends seamlessly with your own hair. We can do this in person at our studio in Shoreview, Minnesota, but also through photos and videos virtually.

The right cut for a hair topper

For the most natural look, a hair topper must have a haircut to add texture, shape, and natural movement. Even if you want to maintain as much length as possible, some texturizing will be necessary to make the haircut flow. We can also thin pieces out to create lower-density hair toppers.

The most natural looking part-line on a hair topper

Most factory created hair toppers - especially brunettes - will have visible "knots" at the scalp area. This is because the hair is hand-tied onto the base. The problem with this is that it can make the part line look too thick and "wiggy". We have a special reverse coloring method that minimizes this problem. Our hair toppers all start out blonde, and are carefully colored at the root area to give a more scalp-like appearance.
