Silk Top vs Closed Lace Hair toppers

I currently sell two types of large cap toppers; closed lace and silk. They share many traits but there are some key differences that will determine which is best for you.

Both of these toppers come in an 8x8 cap, with roughly 4 inches of parting space, and the rest of the cap is wefted. Both are designed to blend with your bio hair, although they do not need as much bio hair to blend as a smaller, monotop would need.

Both have enough hair that you are able to add length to your existing hair, or they can be thinned out if you aren't planning on adding length.

Silk hair toppers have an artificial scalp, in which is actually looks like the hair is growing out of. There are no return hairs and so the hair lays down nice and flat. Because of this extra material a silk topper is a little thicker on top. This makes the piece not quite as breathable and lightweight as something like a mono topper or a lace topper but many find it very comfortable.

The silk topper has a front comb that really makes it sit nice and flush to the head. It can be a little challenging to blend the transition from bio hair to silk top because of the added thickness of the comb and silk material. This material does protect the hair during washing and styling and may hold up better over time. You also don't need to worry about visible knots at all.

A closed lace topper is extremely thin and is great if you have very little bio hair in your front hairline to blend. It is very lightweight and breathable because of the lace material. There is no front comb or clip which makes it very thin and easy to blend.

Depending on head shape, some women find a closed lace topper difficult to lay flush to the scalp because there is no front comb or clip holding it down. My closed lace toppers come with loops to attach an elastic band which makes a huge difference in how the topper will lay on the head.

Both toppers are great options, and it will come down to personal factors which one your prefer. You can always book a virtual consultation and I can help guide you, or if you are local to Minnesota you can come in and try both on yourself!
